The spacious 2200 sq ft (200 m²) home is brightened by about thirty double height windows,
with classic Victorian bay windows in office, sitting room and living room that offer ample daylight throughout the day.
The apartment was recently remodeled throughout, with bleached hardwood floors in all living areas,
along with new bathrooms and a gourmet eat-in kitchen.

The bedrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen face a short side alley, which makes for very quiet living quarters.
Four large kitchen windows look out over the neighborhood towards Alta Plaza Park and Pacific Heights in the distance.
A large office space, study and an additional sitting room face the front of the house.

The kitchen was completely remodeled two years ago to accommodate our love for cooking and entertaining - and is equipped with all necessary gadgets, appliances - and shelves of cook books ...

We live in San Francisco's NoPa neighborhood - short for "North of the Panhandle", refering to the green stretch of public park that connects the neighborhood to the famous Golden Gate Park.
NoPa is a centrally located, vibrant residential neighborhood - an area of tree-lined residential streets intersected by a lively boulevard lined with cafes, eclectic store fronts and popular restaurants. Some recently opened restaurants have inspired the main boulevard's latest nickname - San Francisco's "new gourmet corridor" ...

It's a very walkable neighborhood. An organic grocery store is just a block away (open 7 days a week)
- and every Sunday morning a neighborhood farmers' market offers local organic produce, meat, fish, bread, pastries and flowers along with live music performances.

Some of San Francisco's most popular new restaurants are in short walking distance, along with local coffee roasters, an artisan bakery and the very popular "Bi-Rite" grocery and ice creamery ...

One of San Francisco's most famous sights is also just two blocks away: Alamo Square Park
- an urban green oasis with public tennis court, picnic tables, a popular dog run and playground.
On top of the hill, with one of San Francisco's most famous vistas, the park is as much a tourist destination as a locals' favorite for sun bathing, dog walking, reading or people watching.

NoPa is bordered by many vibrant neighborhoods:
Hayes Valley, Pacific Heights, Haight Ashbury, Castro, Fillmore Jazz district and Japantown are all in walking distance
- with even more great dining, serious shopping and the recently opened Sundance Kabuki Movie Theatre nearby.

The famous Golden Gate Park is just a 20 min stroll away - an urban park larger than New York City's Central Park,
with Botanical Garden, the Conservatory of Flowers, the Japanese Tea Garden - along with two architecturally exciting new museums:
Herzog deMeuron's DeYoung Museum and Renzo Piano's California Academy of Sciences.

San Francisco's urban beach escapes (Ocean Beach, Baker Beach, the Presidio and Chrissy Field) are each a ten minute drive by car or bus - and a drive across the Golden Gate Bridge (20 min) gets you to the Marin Headlands,
a California wilderness preserve with various hiking trails, beaches and wildlife viewing ...

Great day trip destinations include the Point Reyes National Seashore, the wine country of Napa & Sonoma Valley, Mendocino, Anderson Valley, Gold Country, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park
- although the last two destinations would deserve at least an overnight stay to enjoy all their attractions.

We gladly provide maps and tips for any excursion itineraries as well as lists of our local San Francisco favorites.

Depending on the exchange destination, we may be able to include the use of our car (2013 Audi Avant) and city bicycles.
Our building has a garage, but we are so close to public transport, with stops for various bus lines only two blocks away (cross-town, downtown, beach etc), that a car will not be necessary. A Zip Car location is also just up the street.

We travel frequently, for business and for leasure,
are open to all destinations - and are usually flexible with timing.

Our freelance schedules sometimes even allow for spontaneous travel planning - and non-simultaneous exchanges may be an option.

We usually try to be in Europe in summer or over the winter holidays to visit family, and usually take short escape trips while over there - so anywhere in Europe is always interesting ...

We are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but just as much as we love our home and hometown San Francisco, we love to travel and explore new destinations.

We like an urban metropolis with access to culture and city life as much as an off-radar destination with access to unspoiled nature and the great outdoors - and are open to suggestions, so tempt us with any interesting destination ...

We are two European expats who made San Francisco their new home base after living in New York and Germany.
We are in our 40s, both working in advertising - Frank is a photographer, Julia runs a production company.

We love to travel, have no kids or dogs (although we love both),
share an interest in design, architecture and the arts,
enjoy good food and love the great outdoors (hiking, cycling, skiing ...)

We have seen many exciting parts of the world
and like to re-visit favorite destinations as much as discovering new places ...
